Princess Ball February 2017

         

 

 

 

 

The Rio Vista Lions and Soroptimist International of Rio Vista hosted the 7th Annual Princess Ball, Saturday February 11th, 2017, at St. Joseph's Hall in Rio Vista. The Ball, for young ladies ages 5 to 13 and their fathers or other adult male in their lives, was a huge success. We hosted 65 princesses and 52 escorts.  Pizza, carrot and celery sticks and cupcakes were served plus lots of fun swag.

Lobster Sale – February 2017

 

 

 

 

 

The club had a great Lobster Sale, selling 30 whole live, 9 whole cooked and 145 lobster tails.  That's a lot of bisque!  Thank you to all who participated!

 

2nd Annual Turkey Trot – November 24, 2016

The 2nd Annual 5K Turkey Trot was a huge success. Over 160 young people, old people, moms, dads and kids. wearing everything from turkey costumes to sleek race ware crowded the street in front of Bearded Brothers Elite Training Center (formerly The Gym) on Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 AM Thursday, November 24 for the 2nd annual 5K Turkey Trot.

Walter Broussard, posted on Next Door, “It was really nice seeing all the runners pass by my house this morning they always said good morning and happy Thanksgiving that's what makes our community that much more special.”

Proceeds from the event fund the Riverview cross country team, supported by the Soroptimist International of Rio Vista Heart and Sole project, which promotes leadership and character education while instilling the importance of individual health and well-being through running.

Pumpkin Patch – October 15-16 & 22-23, 2016

Despite being rained out October 16 and stolen tents October 22, the club's prolific baking over two weekends netted over $4,000!

Bass Derby – October 7-9, 2016

Soroptimist presence at the 2016 event included members who served beer (as a club fundraiser), marched in the parade to promote our upcoming Turkey Trot and supported an entry in the Downhill Racer event.

Academic Awards Ceremony – May 2016

The 2016 Academic Awards Ceremony honored Rio Vista High School students who met high academic standards in the past school year and awarded Soroptimist and other service club scholarships to graduating seniors.

Medals (silver for high honors, gold for highest honors) were awarded to students in all four classes for their excellent academic performance during the year. Awards were also given to the juniors and seniors with the highest cumulative grade point averages.

Soroptimist awarded scholarships, recognizing both academic achievement and community service, to Madalyn Schultz, John Tello and Cheyanne Bastedo.

McCormack Ranch Sheepdog Trials – April 2016

The third annual McCormack Ranch Sheepdog Trials was a huge success with over 600 in attendance over the three day event. Over 80 dogs and handlers from several western states and as far away as the east competed Friday, April 1 – Sunday, April 3 on the challenging course.

Soroptimist of Rio Vista celebrated 60 years of service Thursday night, February 18th at The Point restaurant. Thank you Founder Region Governor Bobbie, President SI Central Solano Jennifer, President SI Rio Vista Constance, President SI Antioch Stephanie, Founder Regional Governor Elect Pam and Past Founder Region Governor Mary Ann for being a part of our 60th Birthday Celebration.

Lobster Sale – February 2016
Lobster 312x312The event was very successful with over 174 live or parboiled whole lobster (approximately 1.5 lbs) at $25.00 or uncooked lobster tails (approximately 6-7 ounces) at $18.00 pre-sold February 10th and picked up fresh from Maine February 12th.

The Rio Vista Lions and Soroptimist International of Rio Vista hosted the 6th Annual Princess Ball, Saturday February 6th, 2016, at St. Joseph's Hall in Rio Vista. The Ball, for young ladies ages 5 to 13 and their fathers or other adult male in their lives, was a huge success. This year the Ball was free with approximately 137 guests. Radio Rio provided the music. Each Princess received a rose, a photo with their date, dinner, refreshments, popcorn and enjoyed dancing with a live DJ.

This event was not possible without the generous donations from our community.
