LUNAFEST – March 3, 2018
Have you ever dreamed of attending Cannes Film Festival in France or the Sundance Film Festival in Utah? LUNAFEST® may very well give you that same experience, while benefiting the lives of women and girls right here in our own community. On March 3rd, the members of Soroptimist International of Rio Vista transform the Veterans Memorial Hall to host this national film festival of short films by, for, and about women.

Bingo Night – November 30, 2017
It was a fun night for those who attended BINGO Night. The Baked Potato Bar was delicious with the variety of toppings. The prizes and raffle prizes were over the top. The funds raised go toward our scholarships. Thanks to the Education Committee for a great event!!!!
Turkey Trot 5K – November 23, 2017
The average person consumes 3000 calories on Thanksgiving. Get a jump start on offsetting those calories by participating in Rio Vista’s 3nd Annual 5K Run/Walk Thursday, November 23rd, 2017. The timed race starts at The Bearded Brothers Gym in downtown Rio Vista and continues down tree-lined streets, past manicured lawns and historic houses.
The proceeds help fund Soroptimist International of Rio Vista’s Project Heart & Sole, started in 2014 to inspire middle school students to be confident, healthy and self-respecting individuals. The program promotes leadership and character education while instilling the importance of individual health and well-being through running.
Pumpkin Patch Bake Sale October 2017
Soroptimist International of Rio Vista offers delicious treats and goodies at the Western Railway Museum’s Annual Pumpkin Patch Saturday, October 21st and Sunday, October 22nd.
The Museum opens at 9:30 a.m. Trains depart every 30 minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Enjoy games, live music, the hay bale fortress and hayrides. Don’t miss Soroptimist International of Rio Vista’s huge selection and beautifully packaged home baked cookies, pies, breads, candy and more! These delicious treats should not be missed whether you eat as you wander the grounds or take home to have later or give as gifts.
Academic Awards Ceremony – May 3, 2017
The 2017 Academic Awards Ceremony honored Rio Vista High School students who met high academic standards in the past school year and awarded Soroptimist and other service club scholarships to graduating seniors.
Medals (silver for high honors, gold for highest honors) were awarded to students in all four classes for their excellent academic performance during the year. Awards were also given to the juniors and seniors with the highest cumulative grade point averages.
Soroptimist scholarships, recognizing both academic achievement and community service, were presented to Susanne Johnson, Jake Hagan, Jacob Fortes, Daryn Katsuki and Karina Mandujano Rojas.

4th Annual McCormack Ranch Sheepdog Trial – March 31 – April 2, 2017
McCormack Ranch staff and local non-profit agencies, including Soroptimist International of Rio Vista, planned and organized the 4th Annual McCormack Ranch Sheepdog Trial. The club received profits from online ticket pre-sales, gate ticket sales and the sale of commemorative t-shirts. New this year, the club sponsored an “Meet and Greet” event after the Thursday night “Sheep Run” and “Baa Baa Bingo” kickoff preceding the event.

LUNAFEST® – February 25, 2017
Lights, camera and action! Soroptimist International of Rio Vista hosted a glamorous LUNAFEST® 2017 Film Festival. Established in 2000 by LUNA, makers of the Whole Nutrition Bar for Women, LUNAFEST® connects women, their stories and their causes through film. This traveling film festival spotlighted the work of talented women filmmakers with intelligent, funny and thought-provoking themes.
At this red-carpet movie night attendees sampled delicious appetizers, sipped colorful drinks at a no-host bar and enjoyed nine great short films, by, for and about women. Attendees also purchased raffle tickets to win a Michael Kors, Vera Wang, Coach, Kate Spade, or Rebecca Minkoff designer purses. At intermission the club presented the “Live Your Dream,” “Ruby” and “Violet Richardson” awards to local women for their accomplishments.
Proceeds from the event funded high school scholarships and programs that educate and honor women and girls in our community. The event, through LUNA, also benefits the Breast Cancer Fund.

Princess Ball – February 11, 2017
The Rio Vista Lions and Soroptimist International of Rio Vista hosted the 7th Annual Princess Ball, Saturday February 11th, 2017, at St. Joseph’s Hall in Rio Vista. The Ball, for young ladies ages 5 to 13 and their fathers or other adult male in their lives, was a huge success. We hosted 65 princesses and 52 escorts. Pizza, carrot and celery sticks and cupcakes were served plus lots of fun swag.

Lobster Sale – February 10, 2017
The club had a great Lobster Sale, selling 30 whole live, 9 whole cooked and 145 lobster tails. That’s a lot of bisque!
2nd Annual Turkey Trot – November 24, 2016
The 2nd Annual 5K Turkey Trot was a huge success. Over 160 young people, old people, moms, dads and kids. wearing everything from turkey costumes to sleek race ware crowded the street in front of Bearded Brothers Elite Training Center (formerly The Gym) on Thanksgiving morning at 8:00 AM Thursday, November 24 for the 2nd annual 5K Turkey Trot.
Walter Broussard, posted on Next Door, “It was really nice seeing all the runners pass by my house this morning they always said good morning and happy Thanksgiving that’s what makes our community that much more special.”
Proceeds from the event fund the Riverview cross country team, supported by the Soroptimist International of Rio Vista Heart and Sole project, which promotes leadership and character education while instilling the importance of individual health and well-being through running.

Pumpkin Patch – October 15-16 & 22-23, 2016
Despite being rained out October 16 and stolen tents October 22, the club’s prolific baking over two weekends netted over $4,000!

Bass Derby – October 7-9, 2016
Soroptimist presence at the 2016 event included members who served beer (as a club fundraiser), marched in the parade to promote our upcoming Turkey Trot and supported an entry in the Downhill Racer event.
