At their December 15 meeting, Rio Vista Soroptimists honored senior Kaylenn Burgess as December Student of the Month. Burgess was nominated by teacher Donnie Surla of the RVHS Drama department.
Kaylenn Burgess, is a native Rio Vistan. Her favorite academic subjects are Math, Physiology and Drama. Burgess is also a member of the Dance Club and has been active in FFA for four years. In sports, Burgess is active in volleyball, as a middle hitter and blocker, basketball as a center and post, and soccer as goalie and defense. Burgess’ favorite sport is volleyball, and it shows. Her volleyball sports awards include “Best Offense” and “Coaches Award” and twice as “All League Player.”
Burgess volunteers for FFA activities and Paul Graham’s Christmas Party. She has a wonderful singing voice and is often asked to sing the National Anthem at various community events.
Burgess parents are Ali’itasi and Richard Burgess. She has two siblings Hannah and Jarrod. Her mother, Ali, accompanied her to the Soroptimist luncheon.
To the Soroptimist group, Burgess stated, “Family is a big part of my life, blood or not. They push me to do better and have supported me through everything I have done. Also, I am thankful for my coaches who trained me and improved my skills in sports.”
Burgess hopes to attend University of Hawaii or La Sierra University to study music and play for their school volleyball team.
