Soroptimist Honors Abel Zapien

Senior Abel Zapien was honored as Student of the Month by Soroptimist International of Rio Vista at their February 16 meeting. Zapien was nominated for his outstanding achievement in Government and Social Science. He was joined at the meeting by RVHS teacher Marsha Montgomery.

Abel Zapien was born in San Jose, CA and moved to Rio Vista about nine years ago. He lives in Rio Vista with his mother Rebecca Zapien and stepfather Thomas Campbell and siblings Adrian, Pearl, Tommy and Alyssa.

Zapien’s favorite subjects at RVHS are history and literature. He is active in Interact, Chess, AFS and Boys State. In addition to being a good student, Zapien is a talented student athlete. He is a football running back and basketball wing, and he’s on the swim team. He has been honored as “Ramie of the Month” for his athleticism. Zapien also volunteers for various organizations and works at Lucy’s. He hopes to attend either San Francisco State or San Jose State University.
