By Sue Conklin

At their September 22 meeting, Rio Vista Soroptimists hosted their first RVHS Students of the Month for this academic year.  They are Luis Chavez and Susanne Johnson, nominated by Mr. Porter of the Social Studies department.

Luis Chavez was born in Stockton and has lived in Rio Vista for 16 years.  His academic interests are wide, and include Math, English, History and Social Studies.

Football is Luis’ primary extracurricular interest. He plays fullback and tight end on the Rams, and was chosen Overall Player of the Game against Amador earlier this month.  He also enjoys swimming and going to the gym.

Luis’ parents are Julian and Juana Chavez and his brothers and sister are Adrian, Jennifer and Andres.  Adrian, who also played Rams football and who will be attending college this winter, accompanied him to the Soroptimist luncheon.

Susanne Johnson is a native of Rio Vista.  She is active both at school and as a volunteer.  Her memberships include Interact, Acts of Random Kindness, and the Academic Decathlon, and she is a goal-keeper on the soccer team.  Her soccer interest has led her to referee for youth games, and she is also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.  Susanne lists her favorite school subjects as Math and Science.

Susanne’s parents are Morgan and Karen Johnson, and she was accompanied to the Soroptimist luncheon by her mother.  Her brothers and sisters are Morgan, Aaron, Sean, Sarah and Ryan.
