 Pumpkin Patch Festival

Pictured are Staci Olson, Vera Sunada, Susan Whitesell, Katie Rivera, Janith Norman, and Shirley Lira.

Soroptimist International of Rio Vista members with help from the Rio Vista High School Cheerleaders and Journalism Club participated in the annual Western Railway Museum Pumpkin Patch Festival.

Members provided homemade baked goods and hot cider. The first electric express train departed every half-hour to take visitors on a scenic five mile ride from the Western Railway Museum to Gum Grove Station.

Soroptimists of Rio Vista join Passionately Pink

The Soroptimists of  Rio Vista joined the Susan G. Komen Foundation’s Passionately Pink for the Cure Campaign in October. According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, pink is more than the color for breast cancer awareness, pink represents the promise between two sisters to find a cure for breast cancer.

To support the campaign, the Soroptimists team members asked to wear pink to the October 18th meeting and to make a contribution toward finding a cure for breast cancer. Soroptimists everywhere are dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls. Supporting the Susan G. Komen Foundation in finding a cure is one way the local membership is helping others win their fight with breast cancer.

Statics about breast cancer from the Susan G. Komen Foundation indicate, without a cure, 1 in 8 women in the U.S. will continue to be diagnosed with breast cancer – a devastating disease with physical, emotional, psychological and financial pain that can last a lifetime. Without a cure, an estimated 5 million Americans will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 1 million could die over the next 25 years.
