Soroptimist International of Rio Vista Helping High School Girls Dream Big
Many high school students have only a vague idea of what they want to do with their futures after high school. On March 12, 2025, Soroptimist International of Rio Vista (SIRV) hosted a day of workshops with guest lecturers at Rio Vista High School designed to help students envision their futures by participating in the Soroptimist International “Dream It, Be It: Career Support for Girls” program.
The SIRV Education Committee organized the day, and SIRV members and special guest speakers served as workshop presenters. The curriculum focuses on setting future goals, overcoming obstacles, and finding mentors to help reach their goals, whether for college, trade school, or employment.
The event was held at Rio Vista High School, and principal Noelle Nelson opened the day with a session on discovering dreams and exploring careers and closed with putting the dreams into action. The participants were also surprised by a giveaway of three Samsung tablets. SIRV received a small grant from the Soroptimist Founder Region and community support from Lira’s market. This activity reflects SIRV’s commitment to providing women and girls access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment. The club has a rich history of providing the community with scholarships and grants to women and girls in our community.
The club plans to host the next biennial event in 2027.
