About Soroptimist International

The clubs of Soroptimist International strive for human rights for all, equality, development and peace through international understanding and friendship. Because of their work, SI holds category 1 consultative status with the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations International Non-Governmental Organization.

On matters of political controversy between nations, or party politics and of sectarian religion, Soroptimist International maintains a position of strict neutrality." (From the SI Constitution)

Soroptimists play a daily part in their community – thousands, if not millions of volunteer hours per year are devoted to programs ranging from local programs devoted to local needs, such as shelters and scholarships, to world-wide efforts to improve conditions for women and children.

As part of the Founder Region, Soroptimist International of Rio Vista, is a far sighted, action-oriented, cohesive region, achieving excellence through dedication, innovation, expansion, flexibility and the development of democratic leaders

Soroptimist International of Rio Vista, is in district III of the Founder Region. The Founder Region began on October 3, 1921 as part of Soroptimist International, the world's largest classified volunteer service organization for women in business, management, and the professions.

Vision

Be the voluntary organization chosen by all business and professional women committed to improving the lives of women and girls.
We will share our time, talents and financial resources to enrich our communities. Together, we will:

  • improve the lives of women and girls

  • help women achieve economic and political equality

  • serve as a global voice for women

  • provide outstanding leadership development opportunities for women

  • ​enhance world peace and understanding

Mission

To improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world. In order to accomplish this goal, the organization administers several international programs. The organization's major project is the Soroptimist Women's Opportunity Awards, which assists women by giving them the resources they need to improve their education, skills and job prospects.
